The objective of the present workshop is to produce a complete catalog of tsunamigenic sources, both of seismic origin and sedimentary origin (submarine landslides), with potential impact on the coasts of Iberia, Balearic Islands and the Canary Islands. To this end, this two-day meeting, aims to bring together national and international scientists, experts in seismicity and submarine landslides in this area of the Mediterranean and North-eastern Atlantic.
In the case of seismic sources, specialists will focus on making a complete and accurate definition of potential tsunamigenic faults by quantifying the parameters of Okada (1992) model (ie, location and depth of the epicenter, length and width of the fault, slip or displacement, rake, dip and strike angles) for each of the proposed sources. The parameterization of these sources will allow their use as initial conditions in numerical models for the simulation of tsunamis. In the case of sedimentary sources, specialists will focus on determining their location and give an approximate estimate of the volume of displaced sediment. Later, a more precise description of these sources will be required to perform numerical simulations.
